Australian Open – Murray receives wildcard for Australian Open

Hamburg (SID) – The three-time Grand Slam winner Andy Murray (34) receives a wildcard for the Australian Open. The organizers of the tennis tournament announced this on Thursday on January 17th. “Andy is known for his fighting spirit, his passion and his love of the game,” said tournament director Craig Tiley: “And I look forward to seeing him again in Melbourne in January.”

The Scot Murray, who reached the final of the Australian Open five times, was about to end his career in 2019. Thanks to an artificial hip joint, the two-time Olympic champion was able to continue playing – he is currently 134th in the world rankings.

“I had some great moments in front of the great crowd in Australia,” said Murray. “And I can’t wait to get back to the Melbourne Park course.”
