Tyler Bertuzzi (35′, 59′) scored a double for the visitors, and Nick Robertson (9′), Mark Giordano (36′) and Auston Matthews (48′) scored another goal each. Nico Hischier (15′) and Dawson Mercer (26′) scored for the hosts.

Toronto forward Auston Matthews scored his 66th goal this season and broke the 21st century record for goals in a single regular season, which was set by Alexander Ovechkin in the 2007/08 season. The 26-year-old American has four more matches to try to improve his result.

The NHL record for most goals in a season belongs to Wayne Gretzky, who scored 92 goals in the 1981–82 season. Matthews may be trying to reach the 70-goal mark in a season, which has only been achieved by eight players in NHL history. The last such player was Alexander Mogilny, who scored 76 goals in the 1992/93 season.

After 77 matches played, Matthews has 103 (66+37) scoring points.

Toronto won its sixth win in its last seven matches and is in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings. On Friday, April 12, the Maple Leafs will play again against New Jersey, but this time on their own ice.
