Augsburg Panther: Two players from Krefeld: Panther announce the first newcomers

After the disappointing last season, the Panthers had sorted it out. Now there are the first newcomers to report. Justin Volek and Mirko Sacher come to Augsburg from DEL relegated Krefeld.

After the disappointing last season, the Augsburg Panther sorted out first. Among other things, the entire coaching team around Serge Pelletier and a total of eleven players had to leave the club.

It was then announced that Peter Russell would take over as head coach. Now there are the first news from the playing staff. Young striker Justin Volek and defender Mirko Sacher come from DEL relegated Krefeld.

Talented striker with national team experience

Volek is considered a talent who played his first DEL games for Krefeld in the 2020/21 season with a sponsorship license before moving permanently to the city of silk last season. The 20-year-old native of Ravensburg recorded eight points in 55 appearances for the penguins. He was part of the German squad at the last two U20 World Cups and was also able to gain initial experience with the national team.

In Augsburg Volek will continue to play with Mirko Sacher. The 30-year-old defensive specialist has the experience of 283 DEL games (16 goals and 54 assists) for the Penguins and the Schwenninger Wild Wings. Sacher’s signing is also a reaction to the fact that the Panthers started with an extremely narrow defense last season. That had turned out to be a mistake that should not be repeated.

New Panther coach wants more depth in the squad

The new Panther coach Russell is quoted in a club statement as saying that he wants more depth and healthy competition in all positions. “Mirko Sacher is a strong skater, good at one-on-ones and he can also play offensively. As an experienced, right-shooting defender, he makes us better.”

Volek, on the other hand, has developed well in recent years. “He’s a fast, hard-working striker with a good skill set. As a U23 player, he plays an important role in our plans.”
