Atlanta International Airport is the busiest in the world

New data shows that air traffic increased by 6% in 2018 to reach 8.8 billion passengers compared to the previous year.

These new figures come from the Airports Council International, which this week published its new annual report which also includes its ranking of the busiest airports on the planet.

With more than 107 million passengers, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport retained its title as the busiest terminal of 2018.

It should be noted, however, that the airport which received the greatest number of international passengers was that of Dubai, with an attendance of nearly 89 million people.

For the first time, Beijing Airport has surpassed the 100 million passenger mark, registering an increase of 5% allowing it to take second place on the global list.

“It is heartwarming to see that the growth in global air traffic has been maintained in the face of an increasingly tense and difficult geopolitical climate,” ACI Managing Director Angela Gittens noted in a statement.

Angela Gittens specifies that it is also estimated that the increase in supply low-cost and the arrival of a middle class in emerging countries will boost demand for air travel by nearly 30% between 2018 and 2030.

Here are the ten busiest airports in 2018:

  • 1. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport
  • 2. Beijing Capital International Airport
  • 3. Dubai International Airport
  • 4. Los Angeles International Airport
  • 5. Tokyo International Airport
  • 6. Chicago O’Hare International Airport
  • 7. London Heathrow International Airport
  • 8. Hong Kong International Airport
  • 9. Pudong International Airport (Shanghai)
  • 10. Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport CDG 4.0
