One participant, whose identity was not revealed, died in the Ironman event, which took place over the weekend in Cascais. According to the organization, the athlete died after the first segment, swimming 3.9 km. “He needed and received medical assistance, but despite all the efforts of the medical teams, he died in an ambulance on his way to the hospital,” the IRONMAN Portugal note read.
