ASUS contradicts customer service and gives AMD 400 mobos Zen3 support – Computer – News

ASUS clarifies that its 400 series motherboards will receive a bios update to the Ryzen 5000 CPUs early next year. Earlier this week, an ASUS customer was informed that his ROG Crosshair VII Hero motherboard would not be getting the update, but this turns out to be incorrect.

In a statement sent to Tweakers, ASUS says AMD’s decision to follow to provide support for Ryzen 5000 for 400 series motherboards. In January 2021, the first beta bios updates from ASUS will be ready, eventually all ASUS motherboards with X470 and B450 chipset should get the update.

The statement follows earlier this week a Reddit user posted about his contact with ASUS Customer Service. According to the tech department, there were no plans to provide its ROG Crosshair VII Hero motherboard with X470 chipset via a bios update with support for Ryzen 5000 processors.

Earlier this year, AMD announced it is working with motherboard manufacturers on bios updates for B450 and X470 motherboards to support Zen 3 processors. With the update, support for older processors may expire, due to the limited SPI-ROM capacity of many 400-series motherboards. This will differ per motherboard, said AMD at the presentation of the Zen 3 CPUs. MSI already announced that its 400 series motherboards will receive Zen 3 support.
