AstraZeneca prevents Covid-19 at 83 percent.

According to AstraZeneca’s six-month follow-up study, the antibody-containing drug developed by the company is 83 percent effective. in reducing the risk of developing symptomatic Covid-19, the company said.

A separate study by AstraZeneca found that in patients with mild to moderate symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 infectiontherapy with a drug called AZD7442 reduces the risk of disease symptoms worsening by 88% if it is given within the first three days of their occurrence.

These new study results complement the body of evidence supporting AZD7442’s potential to prevent and treat Covid-19 said Mene Pangalos, vice president of research and development for AstraZeneca.

In an earlier study in August this year, the drug was effective at 77%. against symptomatic Covid-19, the Reuters news agency noted.

In the opinion of the British-Swedish company the drug should be regarded as a preventive rather than a therapeutic one – added.
