Aston Martin F1 has had a dismal start to the 2022 season with its launch-spec car, failing to score any points in the first three grands prix of the season.
Drivers initially struggled with the car’s handling and feedback, leading to a series of accidents that hit rock bottom in the weekend in Australia.
Aston Martin F1 has introduced a massive upgrade package in Spain and has been profitable all season, but still remains at the back of the midfield group.
“We have to continue to improve the performance of AMR22 and we have a few people still working on it, but we are already turning our attention to AMR23,” said Mike Clack.
“We’ve been focusing on the AMR23 for some time because the car needs to perform right out of the box.”
“A new season and a new car are our biggest chances to stay ahead of our competitors.”
Mike Clack believes Aston Martin F1’s development to 2022 has been underestimated, but admits the situation is overshadowed by a slow start.
“We’ve made significant upgrades to the car over the first half of the season, but it’s all relative,” said Clack.
“People think that the upgrades are not working because we are not moving up in the competitive position, but the upgrades are working, but not enough to catch up.”
“We brought a major upgrade package to the Spanish Grand Prix, including new sidepods, floors, engine covers, changes to the front suspension, and had enough parts in time to run both cars to their latest specs. ”
“I’ve never seen anything like it. It was an extraordinary effort from the whole team.”
