Asteroid traffic jam: Boulders fly past the earth

Some asteroids were approaching at the weekend. The U.S. Space Agency NASA previously announced that six asteroids will come dangerously close to our earth on June 6th and 7th. These were even classified as potentially dangerous.

It started out loud “Center for Near Earth Object Studies” already in the night from Friday to Saturday the Asteroid163348 (2002 NN4). With a diameter of around 570 meters, it could do a pretty fine job on Earth. But the researchers give the all-clear: If the asteroids no longer change their trajectory, the celestial bodies pose no danger to us. This also applies to the “high-rise” high asteroid.

Asteroid traffic jam on weekend in June

The asteroid is around 5.1 million kilometers from Earth. For comparison: the distance between earth and moon is on average about 384,400 kilometers. The others also keep a safe distance from us. The last asteroid on Saturday evening (2020 LA) comes close to 1.4 million kilometers. In between, the asteroids 2020 KO1 and 2020 KQ1 rush past our earth.

Also in the morning hours of Sunday (June 7th, 2020) asteroids passed us. The last five, with a maximum diameter of 86 meters, are all significantly smaller than the first. Here, too, the warning is given: the asteroids are not a threat to us.

NASA has compiled a list of all asteroids and is continuously monitoring them. If one of the celestial bodies gets too close to the earth, the scientists of the US space agency warn in good time – so far, no such warning has been necessary. That could change by 2029 at the latest.

2029: Asteroid Apophis visibly approaches Earth

On April 13, 2029, NASA expects an asteroid that is so close to Earth that it can be seen with the naked eye in the night sky above the southern hemisphere. The 340 meter wide asteroid is called 99942 Apophis and will come close to us, according to NASA, up to 31,000 kilometers.

In June you can see even more miracles in the sky.

However, it also remains safe for us. On the contrary, we will be able to see the boulder like a sparkling star that moves across the sky from Australia across the Indian Ocean, Africa, the Atlantic and the United States.
