Asteroid 2022 AE1 Giant 230 Feet Diameter Potentially Collision with Earth?

Asteroid 2022 AE1 which has a giant size has the potential to hit Earth. This newly detected space rock is quite horrendous with a diameter of about 70 meters.

The terrible thing is the potential for an asteroid that will hit Earth at some time in the future.

Discovery of Asteroid 2022 AE1 with Potential to Collision with Earth

Space rocks or asteroids are nothing new. Asteroids have often moved closer to Earth.

That’s because some asteroids also orbit the Sun. However, what if there is an asteroid that could potentially hit Earth?

On January 6, 2022 yesterday, astronomers at Mount Lemmon Observatory gave surprising and frightening news.

How not, they saw an asteroid that could potentially hit Earth. Astronomers at several observatories see uncertainty about the asteroid’s orbit.

That’s why astronomers immediately carried out further research after a few hours of the discovery of the asteroid.

During the first seven nights of observations, the likelihood of an asteroid impact colliding seemed to increase. The space rock named asteroid 2022 AE1 is tagged by a system called AstOD.

AstoD stands for Asteroid Orbit Determination. The AstoD system is commonly used by astronomers around the world to assess the risk of an asteroid.

Even more surprising, the space rock 2022 AE1 has the highest rating on the Palermo Scale. Astronomers themselves use the Palermo Scale to categorize impact risks.

Estimated Collision in 2023

The space rock 2022 AE1 is a new discovery. The stone has a size of up to 70 meters or the equivalent of 230 feet.

Since the beginning of its discovery, this asteroid has made the world of astronomy excited because the results of further research show that the potential for collisions with Earth is high.

Both ESA and NASA finally published information about the estimated collision on the Near Earth Object (NEO) information portal site, allowing anyone, even amateur astronomers to see it.

Initially, the asteroid 2022 AE1 was expected to hit Earth on its next trajectory on July 4, 2023.

However, subsequent observations after being delayed due to a blocking full moon showed that the probability of a collision decreased drastically over time.

According to estimates, 2022 AE1 is again visible on July 1-2, 2023 in space and passes a nominal distance of 4,192,066 miles (6,746,476 km) from Earth will not even hit.

“In my nearly 10 years at ESA, I’ve never seen such a risky object,” said Marco Micheli, an astronomer at ESA’s NEOCC (Near Earth Object Coordination Center).

He further said that tracking the whereabouts of 2022 EA1 is very fun.

“It’s great fun observing 2022 EA1 and fixing its trajectory until we have enough data to say with certainty this asteroid won’t hit Earth.”

ESA will continue to monitor the asteroid with keen observers and confirm projections. They also ensure that the asteroid 2022 AE1 will not hit Earth next year as some media have reported. (R10/HR-Online)
