The theater director, Alain Françon, 76 years old, seriously injured with a stab in the neck, at the level of the carotid, this Wednesday at 11:30, in a street of the district of the Old Courier, in the Ecusson, in Montpellier, is out of danger. He was operated on urgently at the Montpellier University Hospital, where the vital prognosis initiated upon his admission, has now been lifted.
The attacker is on the run. The policemen of the departmental security of Hérault are in charge of the investigation. They located the place where the facts took place, not far from the hotel where Alain Françon lives and have already heard witnesses.

Alain Françon, born January 16, 1945 in Saint-Étienne, is a French theater director and author. He founded the company Le Théâtre exploded in Annecy in 1971. For nearly twenty years, he performed there among others Marivaux, Sade, Ibsen, Strindberg, Brecht and Michel Vinaver. In 1989, he directed the Center dramatique national de Lyon – Théâtre du Huitième. He climbs in particular Britannicus and Hedda Gabler. Between 1992 and 1995, he directed the National Dramatic Center of Savoy where he staged Edward Bond, Tchekhov. In 1996, he was appointed director of the Théâtre national de la Colline. His mandate is extended until January 2010, when Stéphane Braunschweig succeeds him. He created his company, The Snow Clouds Theater. In 2016, he received the Molière from private theater director for “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf”. Since February 15 and in temporary residence here until March 20, he works with the students of the 2022 class around Peter Handke’s Always the Storm, at the National School of Dramatic Art -ENSAD – from Montpellier. He is staying in a hotel in the city center, not far from the scene of the assault that took place in the street.
