The developments inside New Democracy are stormy, as after the withdrawal of Mrs. Asimakopoulos from the European ballot of New Democracy and the expulsions of the secretary general of the Ministry of the Interior, Michalis Stavrianoudakis, and the Secretary of the ND, Nikos Theodoropoulos, there is an official statement from Maximus.
Characteristically, Pavlos Marinakis, in his interview on Real FM, admitted that the emails were delivered to MEP Anna Michel Asimakopoulou by Mr. Theodoropoulos, through Mr. Stavrianoudakis.
The following is the statement of Mr. Marinakis to Real FM:
“There is an ongoing investigation by the Personal Data Protection Authority but because we didn’t want there to be any shadow and because we saw the official opposition’s attempt to instrumentalize the postal vote, that investigation came to some conclusions. One conclusion is that some emails seem to have gone – when they should not have gone – after the election process of May 2023, from an associate of the then general secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Mr. Stavrianoudakis – for this he also took political responsibility and resigned, if and he did not have these duties from June onwards (he had other duties not related to the electorate). And through the secretary of Apodimon of the ND, Mr. Theodoropoulos, it seems that the (emails) went, according to what emerged from the investigation, to the MEP Anna Michelle Asimakopoulou”
