As part of the “Light for Ukraine” campaign, the festive lighting in the Town Hall Square will be switched off for a short time

The embassy also said that, using Iranian missiles and drones, a terrorist state has destroyed nearly 50 percent of Ukraine’s energy supply infrastructure. This has caused emergency power outages in every region, leaving homes, businesses, hospitals and other civilian infrastructure without electricity, heat, internet connection and water.

In solidarity with Ukraine, in the “Light for Ukraine” campaign, recognizable buildings illuminated at night with beams of light, as well as concert halls and arenas around the world will turn off the electricity during their performances. The campaign aims to bring global attention to the situation in Ukraine, especially the massive power outages caused by Russia’s massive missile strikes on Ukraine’s critical energy infrastructure.

To support the Ukrainian people in difficult times, on December 22, from 16:30 in the capital of Latvia, the lights will be turned off for ten minutes in the Riga City Council building and the Christmas tree in Rātslaukuma. The action will take place with the participation of the Chairman of the Riga City Council Mārtiņš Staķis, representatives of the Riga City Council and the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia.
