The 43-year-old presenter shares the news via Instagram. In de columnserie Century of my Daughters every week he submitted a concrete question about the near future to scientists and experts. “Will my daughters go into space? Do they still speak Dutch? Will our country disappear in the North Sea?”
A few weeks after the publication of Rooijakkers’ first column, Ronald Ockhuysen, editor-in-chief of Het Parool, against him that requests would be made to publish the columns in a bundle. “Even though I didn’t know that predictive abilities belong to an average editor-in-chief’s job responsibilities, he was right.”
At the end of last year, the presenter signed a contract with publishing house Thomas Rap and started working on the book in good spirits. “A collection in which the columns, unimpeded by the limited space of a newspaper page, have been considerably expanded, renewed and supplemented. And in which I try to map out the century of my daughters in some fifty chapters, including a number of brand new ones. . “
The writing process was not entirely flawless. “I’ll be honest, during the intelligent lockdown I got discouraged. How can you write about the future when there is only the present?”
The presenter has two daughters together with his girlfriend Andrea Pleijte: twins Puk and Keesje of three years old.
