Arsenal’s Interest in David Raya Raises Questions: Is £40 Million Backup Goalkeeper Worth It?

London

Arsenal reportedly seriously interested in the Brentford goalkeeper David Raya. Given Aaron Ramsdale’s slick performance, this move was questionable.

Arsenal are interested in signing David Raya this summer. The opportunity is quite open, considering that the 27-year-old goalkeeper only has one more year of contract at Brentford.

For Arsenal, Raya’s recruitment is expected to provide competition and a suitable coating for Ramsdale. Brentford himself doesn’t really mind letting go of his goalkeeper as long as he’s paid £40 million.

But this plan has been called into question. Spending 40 million pounds to bring in a backup goalkeeper is considered not the best decision.

“This Arsenal rumour, I’m having a hard time digesting it. If you chase and get it, what’s the message for Aaron Ramsdale? Why are you paying £40 million for a goalkeeper if you’re not going to make him the main keeper?” former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy told talkSPORT.

“And vice versa, if you become David Raya, the next step should be to the club that will make you number one. It is impossible for him to go somewhere and be happy to be number two. The only way you get it is if he starts,” added Premier League commentator.
