Arsenal continue without Ødegaard – may be back for the next match

Arsenal – Leeds 2-0

Arsenal advance to the quarter-finals of the League Cup after beating Leeds 2-0 on Tuesday.

Ten minutes after the break, stopper giant Ben White had to leave. In came Calum Chambers, who on the following corner kick a few seconds later headed in 1-0. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said after the match that White resigned due to illness. It was the same thing that made Pablo Mari not present.

In the 69th minute of play, Leeds defender Liam Cooper was supposed to head back to goalkeeper Illan Meslier, but it went badly. Eddie Nketiah intercepted the ball, lobbed it over Meslier and doubled Arsenal’s lead.

– It’s always nice to play. It’s been a while since last, but I’ve been working hard and waiting for this opportunity. The most important thing is that we moved on, says Nketiah to Sky Sports.

Martin Ødegaard was not in the Arsenal squad. After the match, Arteta confirmed that it is due to an injury, but that he hopes to have Ødegaard back against Leicester on Saturday. The Drammen player was intended for a starting place against Leeds.

– Ødegaard and Kieran Tierney tried yesterday, but did not feel good. Hopefully there will be improvement in the next few days, so that they are ready for Leicester, Arteta says at the press conference.

Ben White was not the only Arsenal stopper who had to go out with an injury, for a quarter of an hour before the end Rob Holding left. He stuck to the front of his thigh.

The Norwegians Leo Fuhr Hjelde (18) and Kristoffer Klaesson (20) put the whole match on the bench for Leeds.

Leeds have had a disappointing start to the season. After nine games in the Premier League, the Yorkshire club is in 17th place with seven points.

Chelsea also moved on after beating Southampton 4-3 in a penalty shootout. Reece James scored the decisive penalty kick. It was 1-1 at full time and went straight to the penalty spot.
