Arrest of suspected cause of forest fire near Bordeaux | Abroad

About 30 kilometers south of Bordeaux, near Landiras in the Gironde department, a major forest fire has been raging for a week that is still not under control. The suspect could face up to 15 years in prison and a fine of 150,000 euros.

To the west, on the Atlantic coast, a large area of forest has also been on fire for a week. That fire is also not yet under control, but according to local authorities, the conflagration is no longer spreading. This fire at the beach of Dune du Pilat near Arcachon is known to have been caused by a burning car that broke down along a road. Currently, the fire at Landiras is much bigger than the one on the coast. About 36,000 people have been evacuated in the affected areas in a week. No injuries have been reported.

In the north of the department, a small forest fire is now raging near a village not far from the mouth of the rivers Dordogne and Garonne, about 90 kilometers north of Bordeaux.
