German edition of FOCUS Online warned about a new escalation of the conflict related to Nord Stream-2. Due to US sanctions, the construction of the gas pipeline was suspended, but the pipe-laying vessel in the German port of Sassnitz-Mukran is preparing to lay the remaining 160 kilometers of the pipeline.-

FOCUS Online notes that there are two vessels in the port – the Academician Chersky and Fortuna. The exact timing of the resumption of work is unknown.

“From the US side, new troubles are already emerging,” the publication emphasized.

FOCUS cited US Republican Senator Ted Cruz, who believes President Donald Trump will have to impose sanctions on Gazprom if the company uses Academician Chersky.-

“The managers of the company will be denied entry to the United States, all of their assets will be frozen, and this is only the beginning,” said Cruz.

The publication notes that approximately 2,300 of the 2,460 kilometers of the pipeline from the Russian Federation to Germany have already been laid, for the remaining six percent they will have to look for new solutions.

According to Rambler, in 2018 Germany, Finland and Sweden issued permits for the construction of Nord Stream-2. Denmark did this at the end of October 2019.

Sanctions against Nord Stream 2 were laid down in the new US defense budget, signed by President Donald Trump last December. After the imposition of sanctions, the pipeline pipelayer – Swiss Allseas – suspended work. In Germany, the US called the intervention in intra-European affairs.
