The remake of the cartoon classic “Arielle, the mermaid” is currently still running in some cinemas. Those who are waiting for the film to come to Disney Plus now have a specific date.
On May 25, 2023, the live-action remake of the legendary cartoon classic “Arielle, the Mermaid” started in German cinemas – and is currently still being shown occasionally in cinemas.
For anyone who hasn’t seen the remake yet, there’s good news: Disney has announced that The Little Mermaid Remake will be released on Disney Plus on September 6, 2023.
So far, however, this date has only been confirmed for the American market. However, since the streaming releases on Disney+ are often nationally congruent, it is quite likely that the film will also appear on the streaming service in Germany that day. Incidentally, the musical by Rob Marshall was only partially convincing at the box office. Although the 564.2 million dollars that were flushed into the coffers may sound like a good result at first, this is offset by production costs of almost 250 million dollars. This sum does not even include the insane expenses for worldwide marketing. Ultimately, the film should still have ended up in the plus, even if one certainly hoped for more in the Maushaus studio.
However, this box-office result means that not all mermaid fans have probably seen the blockbuster yet. If you didn’t make it to the cinema, you only have to wait a few weeks until the underwater adventure is available on Disney’s in-house streaming service.
Is the remake better than the original?
Even if the “Arielle” new edition may not quite be able to keep up with the original, the live-action remake is a successful underwater pleasure, which editor Björn Becher gave 3.5 out of 5 stars in his review:
“With better elaboration of the superbly embodied two main characters and a colorful setting that really reflects the human world, ‘The Little Mermaid’ surpasses even the legendary original at its best. So the remake is a skilful and touching new narrative for today’s audience – even if (not only because of the length) fun and entertainment have to cut back a bit.”
