Argentine Player Luciano Sanchez Facing Lengthy Absence After Horrific Injury Inflicted by Brazilian Marcelo

A Spanish report revealed the duration of the absence of Argentine Luciano Sanchez (Argentinos Juniors player) following the horrific injury he suffered due to Brazilian Marcelo (Fluminense defender) last Tuesday, during the two teams’ match in the Libertadores Football Championship.

The former Brazilian international, Marcelo, was sent off, then left crying after causing a terrible injury to Sanchez, as the first was trying to pass from the second in his usual way of dribbling, but his foot inadvertently trampled the Argentine player’s leg, causing him to twist the knee.

And the Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” confirmed – quoting one of the doctors supervising Sanchez’s treatment – that his recovery from this injury requires a period ranging from 10 to 12 months.

“Throughout my medical career, I have never seen such an injury. What happened was the tibia almost separated from the fibula,” said Alejandro Roncorni, Argentinos Juniors club doctor – in statements highlighted by the Spanish newspaper.

“There is a tear in the anterior and posterior cruciate muscles as well, as well as in the meniscus. There is a complete dislocation, and we must rebuild the leg again,” Dr. Roncorni added.

Roncorone is the second doctor to speak with this diagnosis, after Tocho Villani, the Argentine national team doctor, who was the first to see the player and examine his injury, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Fellaini performed surgery on Sanchez, in which he returned his knee to its normal place, and confirmed before that that this was the first time he had dealt with such a horrific injury over the course of his 40 years of medical career.

In turn, the player Sanchez confirmed that he no longer felt any pain, and said, “Fortunately, the doctors were able to return my knee to its correct place, and this makes me feel comfortable. I am now at home and waiting for the tumor to disappear.”

He added, “After the examinations, it turned out that I may need two more surgeries, but before all that we will have to wait for 4 weeks in order to determine that.”

Sanchez admitted that the Brazilian Marcelo contacted him and apologized to him for his “unintended” behavior, and reaffirmed that he “had no intention of harming him.”

And Marcelo had published – through his official account on the “X” website (formerly Twitter) – a tweet in which he wrote: “Today I had to live a very difficult moment on the field. I unintentionally injured a colleague. I wish you a speedy recovery, Luciano Sanchez. All the power in the world is yours.”
