Argentina will exceed 59 million doses of vaccines received since the beginning of the pandemic – Télam

500,000 doses of AstraZeneca arrive today and Argentina exceeds 59 million vaccines received

A shipment with more than 500 thousand doses of the coronavirus vaccine produced by the AstraZeneca laboratory will arrive in the country and with this provision, Argentina will exceed the 59 million doses received since the start of the inoculation campaign, the Government reported.

The new batch with 530,300 doses will arrive at Ezeiza International Airport at 9:10 p.m. on flight AM0030 of the Aeromxico company from the Federal District of Mexico.

This shipment is in addition to the 760,625 doses of component two Sputnik V vaccines that were delivered by the Richmond laboratory this week, the 100,620 shipments from Pfizer arrived on Wednesday and the 200,000 from CanSino that arrived Tuesday.

The Strategic Vaccination Plan against Covid-19 advances throughout the country with a weekly application rate of more than 2.4 million doses in the last fortnight, so that more than 62.5% of the total population began its scheme, and about 40 percent completed it.

The Minister of the Interior, Eduardo “Wado” de Pedro, highlighted the effectiveness of the five-week shift of the electoral schedule that allowed the application of 12 million doses of vaccines against the coronavirus and affirmed that the Open, Simultaneous and Mandatory Primaries ( STEP) this Sunday will be “a safe activity.”

According to current legislation, the PASO are held on the second Sunday in August and the general elections on the fourth Sunday in October, however, this year and for the only time, the National Congress -through a consensus reached between the ruling party blocs and the opposition- modified the dates due to the health emergency caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The rationale for the approved law is that postponing the elections to months with higher temperatures would make it possible to optimize the ventilation of the polling stations and facilitate the implementation of sanitary protocols.

According to the Public Vaccination Monitor, until this Saturday morning 51,970,024 doses of vaccines were distributed, of which 46,763,828 were applied (28,690,870 people received one dose and 18,072,958 already have complete immunization).
