Arequipa. Alina Carazas Portocarrero, a doctor specializing in pathology at the Hospital Honorio Delgado Blood Bank, invited the population to come to the hospital to donate blood given the “critical situation” in which they find themselves as they do not have stored units.
He specified that before the mandatory social isolation of 2020 they had 300 stored units, but currently they barely reach 35. There is greater concern because they must also send to the hospitals of Camaná, Majes and Aplao.
“We are rotating these units, there is no storage. Per day we sometimes require eight to ten transfusions to pregnant mothers with bleeding, for surgery, cancer patients. These units belong to the patients’ relatives or to the same medical, nursing or other personnel, ”explained Carazas.
Faced with this shortage, the specialist asked for the support of the population. He indicated that people can go from 7.30 to 10.30 am, Monday through Sunday. “We have all the protocols, we do the medical evaluation. It is important to mention that a person who has had the virus can donate after a month ”, he added.
