Expert gives the all-clear
According to experts, pollen allergy sufferers in the corona pandemic are no more at risk than other people. “The reaction to pollen leads to an overreaction of the immune system, but the immune system is not weakened,” explained Prof. Dr. med. Berthold Jany, former president of the German Society for Pneumology and Respiratory Medicine.
Allergy sufferers no corona risk patients
So far, people with a weakened immune system, for example due to previous illnesses, have shown severe courses of Covid-19 disease. In the current heyday, there is no increased risk for people with allergies or hypersensitivity reactions to become infected with the Sars CoV-2 pathogen.

Even in the event of infection, allergy sufferers should not expect more severe symptoms than people without allergies. Prof. Jany advised those affected to continue taking their medication as usual and not to stop taking cortisone and asthma sprays.
