The temperature approached 43 degrees in some places in Spain on Sunday. Warm air from North Africa has brought with it this year’s first heat wave.

It is warmest in the central and southwestern areas, the meteorological service Aemet informs. The heat wave seems to last at least until Wednesday.

– They have much warmer air down there, both during the weekend that has been and in the days ahead, temperatures can be up to 35-40 degrees. In some places even higher, says on-duty meteorologist Martin Granerød at the Meteorological Institute.

Temperatures of up to 43 degrees have been forecast in the southern cities of Seville, Cordoba and Badajoz.

In the capital Madrid, the degree can reach 38 degrees. It is well above average for the beginning of June. In the coastal city of Barcelona, ​​it has been forecast 32 degrees.

It seems that we avoid such temperatures here in the north.

– It looks like there is a fairly strong temperature gradient across the continent. This means that the difference between the temperature in southern Europe and the north is quite large, Granerød explains.

The meteorologist says it is the southern part of Europe that escapes with the most sun and the highest temperatures.

– The next ten days it does not look like something will come to us a stable high pressure, and it is still in the area around the Mediterranean that it will be mostly summer.
