-PUB-

According to information released by CCDR-N, the application period runs until July 30 and the winners of the new award will be announced on December 14, the day on which the Douro celebrates 22 years of classification as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Vinha Douro Award includes two distinct categories, namely interventions in integrated plots in farms of up to 2.5 hectares and interventions in integrated plots in farms with an area greater than 2.5 hectares.

According to the coordination committee, applications are intended for owners of intervened plots or the cooperative or association representing the owner.
The distinction, which will be awarded every two years, has already been announced within the framework of the 20 years of the classification of the Alto Douro Vinhateiro World Heritage Site, on the UNESCO World Heritage List, in the category of Cultural, Evolutive and Living Landscape.
The objective of this distinction is to “promote good agricultural and environmental practices in the Douro vineyards and to honor Douro winemakers”.

The prize, as specified by the CCDR-N, aims to “distinguish and promote good practices in interventions in vineyards, choosing the balance and harmony between technical solutions for innovation and modernization of cultivation systems and measures for the preservation and safeguarding of materials and traditional practices”.

The jury is made up of eight representatives from the Missão Douro – CCDR-N, which it presides over, from the Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Fisheries of the North (DRAPN), from the Regional Directorate of Culture from the North (DRCN), from the Institute of Douro Wines and Porto (IVDP), the League of Friends of Douro World Heritage, the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, the Association of Douro Winegrowers (ADVID) and the Association of Professional Winegrowers of the Douro (Prodouro).

It’s continuing to report despite all the confinement contingencies, without stopping for a single day.
