Apple Watch Series 6: price, release and new features

In 2020 Apple will release a new Apple Watch: the Apple Watch Series 6. What do you need to know about the latest generation of Apple’s smart watch? What does it look like, what are the new functions and how expensive will the Watch be? These are our expectations.

Apple Watch Series 6 release

Typically, Apple organizes an iPhone event in the second week of September. The new Apple Watch is invariably presented there. This year, the iPhone has been delayed due to the corona crisis. This has consequences for the planning. However, there is still a chance that the Apple Watch will be announced in mid-September. Not in an event, but through a press release.

Design

In 2018, the Apple Watch got a completely new design and that still looks fine two years later. It is therefore to be expected that this Apple Watch will look the same. The Watch will probably be available again in two sizes, 40 or 44 mm, which means that all previously released Apple Watch straps are still suitable. We expect the Watch to be available in the Netherlands in gold, silver and space gray aluminum.

New functions

The biggest innovation of the Apple Watch Series 5 in 2019 it was always-on display on which the time is always visible. The Apple Watch Series 4 from the previous year had several new health features, such as an ECG app and fall detection. You will also find all these options on the Apple Watch Series 6.

We think it’s time for new health functions again this year. For example, there are rumors about a sensor that it oxygen level in your blood measure and give a signal if it is dangerously low. watchOS 7, the new operating system for the Apple Watch Series 3 and newer, has sleep analysis as a novelty. It goes without saying that the Series 6 has something extra to offer in this respect – what is still unclear.

The Apple Watch may be getting a fingerprint scanner for the first time. A Touch ID-sensor would come in handy when you still need to enter your passcode on the Apple Watch, for example if you put it on in the morning and your iPhone is not yet unlocked.

No more pressure sensitive screen

The Apple Watch has always had Force Touch. With a slightly firmer press on the screen, you can reveal all kinds of hidden functions. But in watchOS 7 these hidden functions can also be called up by a longer instead of a firmer press. Why? Chances are that the future Apple Watch no pressure sensitive screen has more. Something similar happened before with the iPhone.
