Between fantasy and thriller, this new series is soon available and could become a next success for this Netflix competitor.

Apple TV+ begins to show its ambitions with its new releases. The latest is announced for September 8, 2023 and it is The Changeling, which is an adaptation of the novel Le Changelin by Victor LaValle. It is a fantastic thriller in which the characters and the spectators are immersed in a New York very different from the one we know. The plot follows a young couple, Apollo Kagwa and Emma Valentine, who try to find their kidnapped son. During their journey, they will have to face witches or even demons.

The project started in 2017 when the production company, Annapurna Pictures, acquired the rights to the novel. It was only in 2021 that Apple TV+ gave the green light for the series. The latter and written by Kelly Marcel (Venom) and stage Lakeih Stanfield (Get Out) in the lead role, Clark Backo (I want You Back) plays his companion and Adina Porter (The 100) plays the character of Lillian. The Changeling will have 8 episodes, three of which air simultaneously and the others weekly until October 13, 2023.

More thrillers on Apple TV+

The Changeling is not the first thriller produced by Apple TV+. One of the series released on June 9, 2023 notably created many reactions on Twitter (now named X). These were caused by a homosexual scene between two characters, including the one played by Tom Holland (Spider-Man in the MCU). This show called The Crowded Room, TV traces the story of a killer who really raged in the late 70s in New York. The latter was arrested after a shooting he committed and then questioned. During this interrogation, the spectator will discover the many secrets of this murderer. Another project inspired by real fact, this time featuring Taron Egerton (Kingsman), saw the light of day in 2022. It is about Black Bird which traces the mission of James Keene sentenced to 10 years in prison who is offered freedom if he manages to obtain a confession from an alleged killer.

Apple TV+ is still far behind its competitors with just over 25 million subscribers worldwide. However, with its recent releases which are receiving good reviews, the platform is increasingly showing its desire to find a place for itself alongside Netflix or Disney+.
