Apple to appeal ruling in Epic Games lawsuit – Tablets and phones – News

Freedom of choice.
You now have to get all your Apple apps in the Apple App store, with no freedom of choice to get it elsewhere. (I think you can sideload but that only came after I left the Apple ecosystem, so can’t say anything about that)
If you want to see Lupine, you have to get it from Netflix. If you want to see Game of Thrones, you have to get it at HBO. If you want to see Marvel, you have to get it at Disney. There is also no freedom of choice.

It would be nice if you can only get Blueband at the Spar, Coca Cola only at the Plus. Calvé only at the Albert Hein and that are exactly the specific products that you always want to have at home.

Then you either have the choice not to buy/watch/get it, because Lidl also has Cola, Peanut butter and butter…
Or you can spend your whole Saturday going through all the shops and leaving your money everywhere.

On the PC you are used to being able to buy all your games at any game store. Or at one point Steam had almost all the games, but if you could buy it in Steam you could often get it from the publisher’s site or GOG or other download stores.

But lately it’s all about exclusivity and if you want to see this you have to take out a Netflix subscription, if you want to play this, you can only buy from Epic. If you want that app, you have to get it from the Apple store. And because you don’t have freedom of choice, they can demand whatever they want. If Apple wants 50% of the revenue, you can’t do anything about it if you want that app. If you necessarily want to see that Netflix series, you have to purchase the subscription, which is suddenly 30% more expensive (luckily they don’t have a year contracts as a minimum purchase time….)

The consumer therefore wants freedom of choice.
