Apple share: chip company indicates later launch of new iPhones | 05.06.20

The indications of a later start of this year’s iPhone models are increasing.

The clearest clue now came from the chip provider Broadcom. CEO Hock Tan said that this year the surge in sales due to product renewal “for a large North American customer from the mobile phone industry” will be delayed by a quarter. This is his usual paraphrase for Apple and Broadcom is known as an iPhone supplier.

The financial service Bloomberg had already reported in April that at least some of the new iPhone models could come to market later than usual due to delays due to the corona mobility restrictions in China and in global business travel.

Apple usually starts selling the new iPhone models in September. For this, production begins in the middle of summer and components are ordered from spring – which at Broadcom falls into the second business quarter that runs until early May. This year, these orders will be booked in the current business quarter, the Broadcom boss said in a conference call with analysts on Friday night.

Support for the super-fast 5G data radio and a changed design of the top models are expected for the fresh iPhones this year. Apple last launched the iPhone X in November 2017 instead of September.
