Traffic expert Hajo Beeckman criticizes the Flemish way of working
The most frequently flashing speed cameras in the country are located on the ring road in Berchem. Some of the fines there are the result of the cameras adapting to varying speed limits. But that system is actually no good, says Hajo Beeckman, traffic expert at VRT and former spokesperson for the Traffic Center. “The variable speed limits are often illogical, resulting in drivers making their own plans. This way you increase the number of fines.”
