One day after falling to the bottom of the table, Prvoligová Znojmo announced further cuts in the squad. In South Moravia, defender David Stránský and striker Anton Karlsson retire prematurely, the club announced on its website.
“Thanks to both Anton and David for their service to the club. Now we are parting ways, but we wish them both only the best for the future,” declared President Pavel Ohera.
The management of the Eagles reacts to the unfavorable course of the current season by making another of many changes. After a dominant run in the 2nd league, the newcomer of the competition is deeply troubled and is fighting for retention with Frýdek-Místek or Slavia.
That’s why the club officials made a lot of cuts to the existing roster. The early departure of Karlsson (27), who was expected to do great things in the well-known wine region, will be particularly surprising.
After all, he consistently scored goals in Sweden, Austria or Norway. During his first engagement in the Czech Republic, he was not exactly bad in terms of points (6 goals, 8 assists), but the contract was terminated by mutual agreement.

Stránský, who is the same age, worked his way into the core of the Znojmo team last year and made a significant contribution to promotion to the Chance League. However…
This year, he did not meet the expectations of the club – he will fight for a place in the Banská Bystrica lineup. The native of Trenčín grew up in the Třinec academy for professional hockey, later playing especially for Frýdek-Místek.
“Further options for strengthening the staff are under consideration,” reads the official website of the Eagles. Thanks to them, will they bounce off the last rung?
