Anthony Ginting Advances to Quarterfinals of India Open 2024 – Defeats Kenta Nishimoto from Japan

Indonesia finally sent representatives to the quarterfinals India Open 2024. Anthony Sinisuka Ginting escape after defeating Kenta Nishimoto from Japan.

Anthony Ginting faced Kenta Nishimoto at KD Jadhav Indoor Hall, Thursday (18/1/2024) evening WIB. The fourth seed won 21-8, 21-17 in 46 minutes.

After winning the first point in the first game, Anthony was behind 1-3. But he scored five straight points to seize control of the game.

Anthony performed well to prevent Nishimoto from developing the game. He led 11-5 at the interval and continued to build momentum.

At 14-8, Anthony shot to secure the first game. He scored seven points in a row and won 21-8.

The second game was tighter. Anthony tried to open the distance but Nishimoto was always able to respond and even led 6-8.

Anthony took the lead back 11-10, before Nishimoto responded 13-12. From there, Anthony scored four straight points and opened the gap to 16-13.

Nishimoto tried to catch up, but Anthony stopped him. From the position of 18-17, it grabbed three points to lock the victory 21-17.

Qualifying for the quarter-finals, Anthony Ginting will next face Hong Kong badminton player Lee Cheuk Yiu. Apart from Ginting who has already passed, Indonesia only has one other chance to send another representative through Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto.
