Krefeld/Meerbusch/Karst/Juechen/Korschenbroich/Berlin. While the German Bundestag in Berlin has already said goodbye to the summer break, the Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe is still negotiating. On Tuesday, Member of Parliament Ansgar Heveling represented the election scrutiny complaint against the German Bundestag as legal counsel for the Union faction together with Parliamentary Secretary Patrick Schnieder. It’s about the repetition of the federal elections in Berlin.

“There were such blatant voting errors in the 2021 federal elections in Berlin that trust in the integrity of the federal elections was severely shaken. It is clear that parts of the federal election will have to be repeated in Berlin. However, we as a Union are of the opinion that the scope of the repetition must be greater than that decided by the Bundestag’s election examination committee. That is why we are taking legal action before the Constitutional Court,” Ansgar Heveling explains the Union’s motion.

The 2nd Senate of the Federal Constitutional Court therefore negotiated the election scrutiny complaint and heard experts all Tuesday.
