Another Ukrainian Sea Mine Explodes Near Romanian Resort

In Romania, on the Black Sea coast near the resort of Costinesti, another Ukrainian sea mine exploded. The incident happened today, August 14, around 9:00 am.

According to local rescuers, no one was hurt. Romanian media specified that the detonation occurred from a blow to the pier in front of the Forum Hotel in Costinesti. Arriving rescuers found a second mine, which was drifting in the water nearby. A team of Romanian Navy sappers was also sent to the scene to assess the situation and take action to defuse the explosive ordnance.

“Now, due to very strong winds, the state of the sea is not very good. This is a difficult mission for divers. As soon as they arrive, we will have more information. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine and until now, our divers have cleared five sea mines in our area of responsibility, ”said a Navy spokesman. Corneliu Pavel.

He added that these mines pose a danger not only to shipping, but also to coastal activities.

In September 2022, a ship of the Romanian Navy blew up on a Ukrainian mine, this year a merchant ship almost flew into the air. The military of Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey regularly find Ukrainian anti-ship mines in the sea and in the Danube riverbed and neutralize them. From March to December last year, the Romanian Navy carried out four full-scale operations to destroy 40 naval mines in the western part of the Black Sea coast.

As reported EADaily , after the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine mined the coast of Odessa, but the mines were torn off by a storm and carried into the water area. Now they are drifting uncontrollably in the Black Sea towards the Mediterranean, creating a threat to merchant and passenger ships.
