One of the Internet users informed him PGE contacts customers and terminates natural gas contracts. As he reported, when he received a call from PGE, he was informed that he would soon receive the documents relating to the termination of the contract.
He was informed that the company wanted to focus on its current operations and as of January 1, 2023, it would not provide services related to natural gas trading to domestic consumers. The man also learned that “he will soon be assigned an appropriate PGNiG parts supplier.”
The company, in response to questions from TVN24 Biznes, explained it has decided to focus efforts on providing stable and safe electricity to customers. “For this reason, PGE Obrót has decided to stop offering gas, while ensuring that customers will continue to provide services from PGNiG Obrót Detaliczny. This applies to approximately 3,000 contracts,” it reads.
The reasons given were Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the energy crisiswhich has had a strong impact on the sector across Europe.
It was assured that “in no case will gas supplies be interrupted and the change of supplier will not increase bills”. It was added that PGE Obrót has consulted the whole process with PGNiG Obrót Detaliczny and works closely with one of the leading gas sellers in Poland.
First Tauron, now PGE
Previously state-controlled Tauron has decided to take a similar step.
As we wrote in Business Insider Polska, individual consumers of electricity and gas complain about the actions of energy companies controlled by the State Treasury. In the midst of an energy crisis Tauron has terminated gas sales contracts to some customers.
The concern explained this by “the unstable situation on the international gas market caused by the Russian aggression against Ukraine”. In practice, however, the point is that in the face of freezing gas prices for households, this activity has simply proved unprofitable.
The head of the Ministry of State Property, Jacek Sasin, who publicly criticized Tauron, took action. A storm broke out, forcing Tauron to take a series of actions. The company has apologized to customersit simplified the whole process of switching customers to a new seller and ensured that the remaining customers would be served unchanged.
