For Frederik Van Lierde, 2020 is the last year as a professional triathlete, but the corona virus makes it a very frustrating farewell year.
Many events were canceled, but Van Lierde was still looking forward to the important meeting in Nice.
In the south of France, our fellow countryman was 5 times the strongest: in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2017 and 2018. With a 6th victory he would only be the record holder, but Van Lierde will not get that appointment with history.
The city of Nice has called off the Ironman, which was to be organized on October 11. The Grand Départ of the Tour de France on August 29 would not be in danger for the time being.
“I don’t get a chance to say” au revoir “,” Van Lierde writes on Twitter. “This is very sad news for me, but also for everyone else involved.”
The triathlete is also displeased when he watches images of the finish of the 3rd stage in today’s Dauphiné. He questions the public interest at the arrival.
Van Lierde now has two more appointments in his agenda: the Ironman in Sables d’Olonne and his very last triathlon in Menen.
