Another Czech film scores on the international scene. Karel Roden in the new thriller Obsolete captivated the audience in the USA

When you have Karel Roden in a film, you are almost 100% sure that the film will succeed. In addition, director Robert Sedláček is not a beginner, so quality can be expected. It is always a pleasure for a film without much PR with a normal story to succeed at several festivals at once. Not to mention in the USA.

Karel Roden, in the role of the mysterious man Radek, returns to Prague for a few hours after twenty years to find a young woman there and deal with the past. He is assisted in the search by a radio host who gets his story on her live program. During Radek’s narration, not only she is drawn into the gloomy story, but also the Prague criminal and other actors in the long-forgotten events. This is the annotation of the film Obsolete.

“The film has a motive of crime, mystery, emotions and surprising resolution. So everything a good thriller should contain, ” states the director Robert Sedlacek.

Captivating Roden

“I read the script in one breath. Robert Sedláček and I have been talking about some cooperation for a long time, and in the end it worked out by coincidence, ” says the main character’s representative Karel Roden. Just performance Karla Rodena should be the main decoration of the film, according to the creators.

In many moments, this is his captivating one man show, and the responses from foreign festivals prove it right. “ says the producer Jiří Tuček from DONART.

Roden’s character returns to events long into the past, and the film thus opens up the theme of time-barred crimes. In many countries, crime can be punished at any time, but in the Czech Republic, its perpetrators have a chance of so-called statute of limitations and the fact that after some time they can no longer pay for their sins.
