Ankara’s first reaction to the deal between Israel and UAE

As a result of the negotiations that the USA mediated, yesterday, Israel and the United Arab Emirates announced that they have reached a normalization agreement.

Following this statement, a very harsh response came from Ankara… In the statement, which was presented by the Reuters news agency as “last minute development”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “The Palestinian people and administration have the right to react strongly to the agreement between the United Arab Emirates and Israel. “History will not forgive the behavior of the United Arab Emirates, which signed such an agreement.”

WHAT DOES THE AGREEMENT MEAN?
Under the agreement mediated by US President Donald Trump, Israel has agreed to suspend its annexation plans for areas of the occupied West Bank. In addition, the agreement strengthens the opposition of the UAE, Israel and the US to the regional power Iran, which they see as the main threat in the conflicted Middle East.

Israel signed peace agreements with Egypt in 1979 and with Jordan in 1994. However, the UAE, along with many other Arab countries, did not recognize Israel and so far had no official diplomatic or economic relations with Israel. The UAE became the first Gulf Arab country to reach such an agreement with Israel.

Officials from the three countries described the agreement as “historic” and a breakthrough towards peace. But Palestinian leaders denounced this as a “backstab.”

In a joint statement made by the Israeli UAE and the US, it was stated that Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed “agreed to fully normalize relations between Israel and the UAE”.

It is stated that the agreement will allow the two countries to “draw a new path that will reveal the great potential in the region”.
