Angry farmers block track in the Achterhoek

Angry farmers have blocked the track in the Achterhoek for some time tonight. They campaigned against the government’s nitrogen plans. At the Lichtenvoorde-Groenlo station in Lievelde, they chained two trains.

By blocking the track, the farmers wanted to “prevent the diesel train on the Lievelde-Winterswijk route from emitting nitrogen any longer in the beautiful Natura2000 area Korenburgerveen”, says the activist farmer Henk Oonk.

Because of the action, train traffic between Winterswijk and Vorden came to a standstill. It is unknown when it will start again. Passengers stranded in Lievelde were taken to their destination by electric car activists.

Carrier Arriva late Broadcasting Gelderland know that they have “very much understanding” for the farmers’ protest. “But that doesn’t mean you can touch our trains and jeopardize the safety of our people and our passengers,” a spokesperson said.
