Angelina Jolie: “While I was married to Brad Pitt, I feared for the safety of my family” | Celebrities

CelebritiesAngelina Jolie (46) has spoken out about her divorce from Brad Pitt (57) during a rare interview. The whole procedure has been dragging on since 2016 and all the new developments do not seem to hasten the outcome. Angelina now admits that she feared for her own safety and that of her children, so she decided to file for divorce.

That’s what a curiously candid Jolie tells the British newspaper The Guardian, in response to her upcoming and tell-tale book ‘Know Your Rights and Claim Them: A Guide for Youth‘. When asked why she wrote that book, she responds with the following: “I had quite an experience in the United States with my own children and I was thinking about human rights and children’s rights.” But she can’t say exactly what happened and why she feared for the rights of her own offspring: “I… I’m still involved in my own legal situation. I can’t talk about that.”

Even when the Guardian journalist notes that so much ink has already been spilled about the divorce that it is difficult to separate the facts from the fabrications, Angelina responds that she has “sworn to remain silent.” However, the actress does let her see into her cards: Jolie is asked to nod when she talks about her own divorce and the accusations against Brad for misconduct, after which she effectively confirms this. “Whether I feared for the safety of my children? Yes, for my family. My entire family.”

Meanwhile, it came to light that Maddox no longer wants ties with his father, after a scuffle three years ago. That reportedly happened during a flight in their private jet. It was very painful for Angelina, according to her, how she fought for the rights of children on the world stage, while those same rights were being violated in her own environment. “Often you don’t recognize something in a personal way, especially when your focus is on the biggest global injustices. Because everything else seems smaller. It is so hard. I’d love to be able to have this discussion and it’s so important…” Angelina says, finishing her sentence after some hesitation: “I’m not the kind of person who makes decisions lightly. It took a lot of me to be in a position where I felt I had to separate from the father of my children.”

What preceded

Angelina filed for divorce in 2016 after two years of marriage. They had been together for twelve years by then. Together they have six children, the oldest three of which have been adopted. Angelina and Brad are not officially divorced yet, but were officially declared single by the judge last year.

A few weeks ago, Angelina Jolie won another big victory in the custody battle for the children. The actress had filed a petition to have the judge who decided the custody case, John Ouderkirk, removed from the case on the grounds that he was biased. Ouderkirk is said to have a business relationship with one of Brad’s lawyers. Some judges agreed with her, after which Ouderkirk was removed from the case. That also meant that an earlier court ruling allowing Pitt to spend more time with his five minor children was reversed.
