With her band Obelisk, Angelika Mann celebrated great success in the GDR. Even after reunification, she continued to be successful. That’s what “die Lütte” does today.
Angelika Mann achieved great fame in the late 1970s and early 1980s in the GDR with songs such as “Kutte”, “Champus-Lied” or “What drives me only”. The music of the Berliner also played in children’s rooms. The “Rain Song” from “The Dream Magic Tree” is still in many people’s ears today. Mann celebrated success with the band Obelisk between 1980 and 1984, and from 1982 she presented her own television show.
Nevertheless, in 1984 she decided to apply for an exit visa from the GDR. In 1985 this was granted and Mann moved to West Berlin. At the age of 36, Angelika Mann had to completely reinvent herself.
In addition to her career as a singer, she continued to work as an actress and author of dialogues. Mann also tried his hand at cabaret more often. She still uses her nickname “die Lütte” or just “Lütte”, which she already had in the GDR times.

Lütte
The expression comes from the Low German word “lütt” (small). In Low German, as well as in Berlin and Brandenburg, “Lütte” is another word for a child.
In the 1990s and 2000s Angelika Mann was part of several successful theater productions. For example, she took part in Günter Krämer’s production of “The Threepenny Opera” or Rosa von Praunheim’s “Der Einstein des Sexes”.
Since 2010, Angelika Mann has been touring through German-speaking countries as housewife Doris Bertram in the “Heisse Zeiten” trilogy. She hasn’t lost sight of music either. Most recently, she worked on the album “Endlich Weihnacht” by fellow GDR star Frank Schöbel in 2018.
To this day, Angelika Mann lives in the former West Berlin, in the Neukölln district of Rudow. Her daughter Ulrike Weidemüller is also an actress and singer.
