The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, has admitted this Monday that “it is not known at what moment the volcano of ‘Cumbre Vieja’ is currently located, on the island of La Palma, after last night it was produced a rupture of the cone.
Anyway, Torres has indicated that “no” seems to be near the end of the volcano’s eruption. In this sense, he explained that the rupture of the cone on Sunday night has caused the exit of “a lot of liquid lava” to the outside and that it slides over the previous one.
However, he has clarified that it is necessary to follow its path because “there may be regressions” and affect, if that lava widens, a greater number of homes and agricultural areas, for this reason he has indicated that “the ideal” is that the lava reach the sea in a “peaceful way” and end this “devastation” on La Palma.
This was stated by the Canarian president before presiding over the opening of the academic year at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The Canarian president has affirmed that the penalty “is tremendous”, and what remains is “resistance”. In this sense, he has recognized the nobility, solidarity and courage of the people of La Palma, for whom he hopes that the announced aid will arrive “as soon as possible”.
