Let’s go back to October 1997, when the eyes of all boxing fans in Poland are focused on Andrzej Gołota struggling with Lennoxem Lewisem Heavyweight WBC belt. – From the moment we entered the ring, Mariola and I saw that something was wrong with him. It was enough to look at him to realize that his movements were unnaturally slow, that every raise of his hand, every step made him very difficult. Later it turned out that because of his aching knee, the doctor had given him an injection of lidocaine before the match. The medicine got into the head with blood. Then, in the locker room, he lost consciousness. He could have died then – said Bożena Gołota in an interview with Super Express.
