Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia Android cellphones actually have the image of being a ‘cell phone for parents’. At least that’s according to reports from Wall Street Journal, who conducted a survey of adolescents in the United States (US).

One of the testimonials came from Abdoul Chamberlain, a 20 year old content creator. In the video he uploaded last April, Chamberlain openly said that Android phones were irrelevant for young people.

“In 2023 you’re still using ‘Droid? You must be at least 50 years old,” he said.

For information, ‘Droid is slang alias slang to refer to Android. This term began to be used because of the release of the Motorola Droid device in 2009.

At that time, the Motorola Droid became an Android device that was predicted as a competitor to the iPhone in the US, quoted from PhoneArenaWednesday (23/8/2023).

In the report Wall Street Journal, it is stated that many Android users defend this type of cellphone. One of them is because Android phones on the market today offer camera quality and battery life which are claimed to be more capable than the iPhone.

Even so, the iPhone brand in the US seems to have taken root among teenagers. The high price also makes iPhone users feel superior to Android users.

In fact, children at school often denounce Android cellphone users as ‘poor people’. This exclusivity is strengthened by the iMessage feature which is only available for iPhone users.

According to the firm Statcounter, 57% of cellphone users in the US use an iPhone. Slightly higher than Android cellphone users, which are only 43%.

A survey of 7,100 teenagers in the US conducted by the firm Piper Sandler showed that 87% of US teenagers use the iPhone. They also plan to buy an iPhone when it’s time to change cellphones.

The phenomenon of US teenagers defending the iPhone desperately is not reflected in the global world as a whole. Currently, 71% of cellphone users in the world use Android phones. Only 28% use an iPhone.
