Andretti’s Formula 1 Entry Rejected Despite Meeting Criteria: What This Means for New Teams in F1

Since the arrival of Haas in 2016, no new team has joined Formula 1, and as Andretti’s case shows, even those who toy with the idea are undertaking the impossible. As reported by Vezess, the American team, despite this rejected the management of the championship, that he met the criteria of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), so contrary to his intentions, he will not be on the starting grid next year.

However, the negative answer did not discourage Andretti in the least, and in addition to asking for another consultation are trying to initiate regarding their possible connection, they are constantly working on the expansion. In the spirit of this, they will not only build another American center, but also in the United Kingdom they also opened a facility.

At the same time, all existing loopholes in Formula 1 can be closed, freezing the current number of 20 people in the field. As reported by veteran F1 writer Joe Saward in his blog wrote,

in connection with the next Concorde contract, which is valid until 2030, the current ten teams are working in the background to enable the participation of a maximum of 10 teams from 2026 instead of the previous 12 in the new trade agreement.

Given that there are currently so many teams in the world championship, this would mean that a new team would only have a chance to enter Formula 1 if it took the place of an existing team.

With the pact, they clearly want to ensure that they do not have to share prize money with additional teams, as the difference is not covered by the 200 million dollars nor what each new team would have to pay other teams to join. If this is not feasible, it is also possible that the entry fees of new teams are skyrocketed.

However, according to Saward, this is not the only pivotal point of the new Concorde agreement. Several teams do not take kindly to the fact that the owner of Red Bull and Racing Bulls (VCARB) is the same, in view of this, they would almost require that each team have an independent owner, and at the same time operate with as many self-produced components as possible.

The teams have until the end of next year to sign an agreement on trade terms.
