Andreas Kalbitz: AfD right wing receives full payments for August

Although the Brandenburg member of the state parliament Andreas Kalbitz his chairmanship in the AfD parliamentary group has been suspended since August 4th, he will receive his full salary for the office this month.

The salary for August had already been transferred, said state parliament spokesman Gerold Büchner. In addition to the MP’s diet of 8,608.01 euros, Kalbitz received the official allowance of 6,025.61 euros, said Büchner. In addition, there would be increased pension payments of EUR 3,156.66.

Kalbitz had announced that the group chairmanship would initially be suspended until a court ruling on the cancellation of his party membership. The parliamentary manager of the parliamentary group, Dennis Hohloch, is to lead the official business until then.

The first hearing before the Berlin Regional Court is scheduled for August 21. When asked, the deputy parliamentary group leader Birgit Bessin said that the state parliament administration had to clarify the question of salaries.

The administration is now checking what payments Kalbitz will receive for September, said state parliament spokesman Büchner. A statement from the AfD parliamentary group had been requested. “It’s about the question: What does it mean if Mr. Kalbitz does not give up the chair, but lets it rest – and Mr. Hohloch does not take over the office, but does the official business?”

Kalbitz had already let the parliamentary group chairman rest after the cancellation of his membership from the party by the AfD federal executive committee from May 15 to June 23. Then the district court granted him temporary legal protection for his party membership. At that time, the 47-year-old also received the post for May, said Büchner. In June, only the remaining days after the restart were paid for with the award.

At the end of July, the AfD Federal Arbitration Court confirmed the retroactive end of Kalbitz’s membership.

When he was admitted to the party, the faction leader of the AfD had concealed a previous membership in the right-wing extremist party “Die Republikaner” as well as an alleged membership in the right-wing extremist banned association “Heimattreue Deutsche Jugend”. Despite a membership number on a “Andreas Kalbitz family” in HDJ records, Kalbitz denies having been a member there.
