André Rieu sees things gloomily for his company

Almost all of his concerts have been canceled. André would give twelve shows at the Vrijthof, but they have been canceled, just like performances abroad.

It is even questionable whether the Christmas shows in MECC Maastricht can continue. According to the musician, no decision has yet been made. However, the violinist has a hard head. “It will be difficult with 12,000 people in a covered area. Mouth masks and gloves may still be possible, but it is impossible at a distance of 1.5 meters.”

Lost year

André calls 2020 a lost year. If the corona crisis continues in 2021, he even fears for the survival of his company. He employs 136 people. In order to be able to pay for all of these, it is important that he can play for full houses again next year.

The world famous violinist holds out hope. “If people can already sit next to each other in a plane with mouth masks, then that should be possible at the Vrijthof, without that one and a half meters,” he says.

One thing is certain for André: “Something has to be done, we have to get going again. No performances for a whole year, as a company I cannot keep going.”
