Andre Iguodala Named Executive Director of NBA Players Association: What You Need to Know

Andre Iguodala will take over as executive director of the NBA Players Association following the resignation of Tamika Tremagio, the union announced Thursday. Tremaglio, according to the union, “resigned the position to pursue new opportunities.” The NBPA executive committee approved Iguodala’s appointment, the body added. Tremaglio didn’t even serve two years of her four-year term as CEO. It was not immediately clear whether Iguodala, the four-time NBA champion who retired last season and was a longtime union official, is interested in the full-time position. The change in union leadership was a surprise given that Tremaglio had revealed on Tuesday that he had visited the Indiana Pacers — just the second team he has visited this season, after spending time with the Atlanta Hawks in October — and had intention to return to Indianapolis for the All-Star Game in February. “I am honored to take this position and serve the players who are the heart and soul of the NBA,” Iguodala said in a press release published by the union. Although the NBA and NBPA are in constant communication on various issues, the biggest issue that the parties usually deal with will not be a major issue in the coming years. The league and the players are in the first months of the new collective bargaining agreement that will apply until October 15, 2028 or possibly until the end of the 2029-30 campaign. “His leadership on the NBPA executive committee was imperative in several rounds of negotiations for the new collective bargaining agreement and empowered our players to think like the business titans they are,” Tremaglio wrote on social media this month in reference to Iguodala.
