Each year, the European Golden Shoe rewards the top scorer of the Old Continent in the championship. A trophy which, since 2017, has been the property of Lionel Messi, the Argentine striker being the most successful player and the only player to have won it three times in a row (2010, 2012, 2013, 2017, 2018, 2019).

Will the FC Barcelona star pass four? It’s far from acquired … Before the end of the season, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the “Pulga” only occupied sixth place in the ranking. A classification established according to the number of goals scored, but also to the UEFA coefficient of each country.
A goal scored in one of the top five major leagues (Liga, Premier League, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1) earns 2 points for its author, 1.5 points if he plays in a less important league like Portugal or Turkey, and only 1 point if he plays in a second zone championship like Lithuania or Estonia.
This explains why Erling Haaland, who has scored 25 goals in total since the start of the season (19 with Salzburg and 6 with Dortmund), is only fourth, not all of his achievements having the same “value”.
