The long-awaited Nintendo Switch 2 (or whatever it’s called) is expected to be announced this year. Rumors and leaks have been building for a couple of years now, so it would be surprising if Nintendo didn’t unveil its new console within the next 12 months. Analysts seem to be of the same opinion.
In conversation with Gamesindustry.biz, Analyst Dr. Serkan Toto from Katan Games believes that the next console from Nintendo should definitely be released in 2024. He also predicts that the system will be slightly more expensive than the Switch’s original price of about $400, with prices for Nintendo games also rising to $70.
Another big statement from Toto is that Nintendo’s next console will be an “iteration, not a revolution,” much like the current Switch with a few tweaks. This is not surprising given the success of the Switch. True, then it is not entirely clear what will make the price so high.
Toto also claims that the successor’s focus will continue to be on portability, as the Pokemon series is “associated with handheld gaming.” Then again, it doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to predict that Nintendo will stick with the hybrid console concept after such a revolutionary experience.
It’s worth remembering that none of Toto’s claims have been confirmed, so it’s best to take them as predictions. As an industry analyst, he understands the topic better than the average person, but he was wrong on some of his predictions last year, especially in the cryptocurrency market.
Unfortunately, Toto doesn’t say anything about backwards compatibility, which has been a concern for Nintendo fans for a long time. While backward-generation compatibility is now considered an industry standard, there are concerns about hardware incompatibility.
